Relations with Israel
Now it’s old news that Kasuri met Shalom in Turkey. It seems that the Musharraf regime has gone blind in its quest for “moderation” and “liberalization”. Musharraf has said that the meeting had the blessings of King Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia and that Mahmood Abbas also supported the move. But Nabil Shaath of the Palestinian Authority has reportedly given statements in opposition of the meeting.
Musharraf has been on this agenda of sleeping with Israel since 2003 when he first proposed to start a debate for establishing relations with the Jewish state. He thinks that it’s high time for getting along with Israel since, in his perception, Israel is now sincerely trying to make peace with Muslims in general and the Palestinians in particular. In giving a go to the Kasuri – Shalom talks, he cites the fact that Israel has now abandoned the settlements in the Gaza Strip. This argument is reinforcing his perception.
I wonder how President and General Musharraf, who is consider as a very thoughtful “statesman”, be so naive. He doesn’t even seem to be sparing a couple of seconds to give a hard thought to the reality behind the Israeli move.
If nothing else, he should, I believe, look at the manner in which the Zionist state will be compensating the settlers.
Infact, Israel is not serious for living in peace with Muslims. It has never been. No doubt, Muslim states have shown aggression in the past, but Israel is also not innocent. We don’t have to look at anything else; we ought to only have a look at the way the Zionist state came into being by encroaching upon the Palestinian land and that of the neighbouring countries.
Although Israel has now finished the withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, but the airspace remains in it’s control. Instead of being a step forward in the way of Palestinian liberation, it is a step backward. Israel is now more determined to suppress the Palestinian people. In retaliation to any act of liberation, Israel has now vowed to strike anywhere with much more savagery.
Musharraf thinks that Israel has started showing the soft corner of its heart to the Palestinians. I didn’t knew he was such a fool. He says that the Istanbul meeting of the foreign ministers is a signal to Israel that the Muslim world is receptive to any and all acts from Israel towards peace. What a fancy!! I mean, how many times in the past does Israel has kept its word, or acted for peace? Pakistan has given a free prize to Zionism.
