Migrating

Filed under:

Of late, I’ve seriously started thinking on the lines of migrating my blog. It’s only due to the reason that I’ve been facing some problems relating to my current host :( ; first of all, since I don’t have filesystem access, it’s been impossible for me to upgrade my blog software. Secondly, due to the same problem, It’s now become quite difficult for me to deal with the level of spam that my comments field are attracting and sitting and looking at each spam comment and moderating it manually has become quite tedious.

I have thought of a plan that envisages a progressive growth of this blog in the months to come. However, I think I’ll have to stick to free hosts for the time being, which, I understand isn’t a very good idea but definitely this issue has to be dealt with in due course; but again, I’ll have to rely on such hosts for some time!!

Looking for a host also created an urge to look for another platform for my blog and after testing Subtext, Nucleus, Drupal and obviously Wordpress (which has been my platform of choice till now), I’ve settled for Drupal, although there is a major issue of migrating my current posts to Drupal, as the solutions that I’ve been able to find again assume access to the site’s filesystem :( ....

Well, it’s still and idea and let’s see how it fares in due course.

I’m still here :)

Yes, I know I’ve been away since quite a long time now….but couldn’t help it. No no….let me accept it that apart from the usual business of life that did infact get intensified, there was also a bit of laziness on my part.

However, all this matter of absences from the scene is about to end. My semester final exams are starting from Monday, which is the day after tomorrow. The exams will end by 15th of this month. So I hope of returning afresh after my exams :) .

Eid Saeed

It was Eid day today in Pakistan except for the North West Frontier Province, which had celebrated Eid earlier. It’s been with usual fervour and warmth that Eid has been celebrated here with people greeting each other and children enjoying the bounties of eidi. Obviously, the centre point of all greetings has been siwayyan.

Eid Mubarak to everyone out there. May this Eid bring with it the most happiness, bliss and peace and the best of what life has to offer. May we all revel in the showers of Allah’s Blessings that come our way this Eid and always.

The 1st Hourly Exams

Filed under:

Heck…I got over with the hourly exams today to again get a lease of life for yet another month. In this period, I ended up with successfully messing up with my Investment Banking and Marketing Management papers :) . So out of six, there are strong chances of me getting flunked in atleast two papers – well, not atleast, but just two :) . And being a ‘good’ citizen belonging to the proud Pakistani nation, I wouldn’t blame myself for it entirely. i said I wouldn’t blame myself entirely; that means that I do blame myself a bit :) .

The Investment Banking teacher loses her bearings a good lot of times during class sessions and the Marketing Management teacher from Japan delivers some really insightful lectures in the ‘Anglo – Japanese’ language. Yes, that’s my way of referring to a mix of English and Japanese. Well, you know how a Japanese would speak English in a Japanese accent!!

So there it goes…...a collective effort on the part of the instructor and myself towards the possibility of me getting a distinguished failure grade inthese hourly exams. I should have made more efforts to sort things out and study. Afterall, a number of my classmates did exactly that. But Marketing? I’m really allergic to it. Couldn’t marketing have been a different piece of a sweeter cake? Oh yes, it should have been that way. Still, I wish myself the best of luck for future exams :) .

A thought about exams

Filed under:

Semester exams done with today, I feel somewhat relieved. Classfellows oganized a lunch at Purple Haze after the paper but I didn’t feel like going, so I took my way to home. Almost half the class was willing to go.

I returned to home, had my lunch and took time to rest. I was thinking regarding my performance in the exams, the marks I was getting and about the feeling that my marks were inadequate. This is the first time in my life when I’ve felt that getting 85 or 86 marks ot of 100 is inadequate. One would feel how thankless I am by not being content. But that’s the way this system works. It makes pupils to literally die for one – tenth of a mark.

I feel that this system of masuring GPA emphasizes too much on getting more and more marks by any means. Although it pomotes competition and keeps the students on their toes, it also creates undue pressures on the students’ psychology. Coupled with this, callous attitude from teachers regarding proper teaching cmpounds problems for students.

Work time and free time

Filed under:

These days, it’s off for me. And well into the holidays, I’ve now started to crave for work. I’ve gotten bored with vacations. I always tend to get bored with vacations. I’m sitting here in my home in front of my PC, wondering what to d and thinking about why vacations are there and why people take time off from work.

A very absurd thought, indeed.

TIme is obviously taken off from work to get refreshed and recharged. But why do we humans (or is it only me?) so thankless that when on work, there’s a craving for vactions and while in vacations, there is an equally strung urge to get back to work. But I’m not the sort of a person who will jump at any opportunity to take time off.

Wht should I do? The idiot box, television, is simply unbearable; there is no worthwhile recreation spot in this godforsaken city called Karachi; staring at the PC with no aim isn’t a good solution. I want my workdays back, O God Please, O God, grant me my good workdays. Vacations are taking their toll on me.
